mervyn
Being with Mervyn takes affairs of the heart to another level.
At just 28 years of age, he helps to perform the first heart transplant surgery in the world and pushes the boundaries of medicine. A few years later, Mervyn takes a front row seat to some of the most pivotal moments in the history of the Middle East and the world serving as Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin’s personal physician, companion, and friend. This doctor always put his patients first. He was not there simply to treat his patients, he was there to help the whole person. Mervyn's story gets to the heart of medicine, what it really means to deliver personalized care. Never distinguishing patients by race or social class, even in the darkest days of South Africa's apartheid state. An insatiable thirst for knowledge and a rigorous discipline of research and innovation, all for the dignity and the care of patients, still propels this force of nature 50 years later.
